iTeach

iTeach is a 3-5 day intensive, cohorted learning experience with customized facilitation around a major topic in higher ed teaching and learning.

First offered in 2004, iTeach is a signature UAF initiative that brings instructors at all levels together to explore best practices and innovations in teaching and learning in higher education. Originally focused on online teaching, iTeach serves instructors across the state in intensive learning experiences on topics ranging from inclusive teaching in gateway courses to transdisciplinary problem solving. Led by the Center for Teaching and Learning’s instructional design team, iTeach brings evidence-based best practices and innovation in teaching to the expertise that UAF instructors practice in the classroom every semester.

iTeach 2024 – Adjunct Course Development Workshop

UAF adjunct instructors who are teaching online courses in Fall 2024 are invited to apply to the CTL’s course development iTeach workshop. This online workshop will support instructors in designing/revising their online courses to meet best practice standards as laid out in UAF eCampus’s Course Evaluation Rubric. Through a combination of direct instruction and dedicated work periods, instructors will come out of the week-long program with a better understanding of the expectations and choices they have in online teaching. All participants who complete the program will be eligible for a $750 course development stipend.

Outcomes

  1. Review Universal Design for Learning principles and framework.
  2. Apply best practices in online course design.
  3. Prepare an online course to teach in Fall ’24

Applicants must be UAF adjunct instructors who have taught online at UAF before and expect to teach online in Fall ’24.

iTeach 2024 – Transdisciplinary Approaches to AI

The world is full of complex problems that eclipse strictly disciplinary solutions and benefit from multiple perspectives. For example, how might AI integrate with learning? In this workshop for educators, staff, and researchers in all disciplines and roles, you will learn about and test pedagogical approaches that empower you and your students to engage in transdisciplinary problem solving with a focus on intersections of AI and education.

Outcomes

  1. Learn and apply a framework for transdisciplinary problem-solving
  2. Discuss intersections of AI with university work and priorities
  3. Collaborate with colleagues across UAF

iTeach 2025 – Current Topics in Higher Ed Pedagogy

The Center for Teaching and Learning will offer a hybrid iTeach workshop to UAF instructors at all levels and across all disciplines in May, 2025. Past iTeaches have focused on online learning, gateway course development, and inclusive teaching. The topic for this 3-day workshop will be determined in spring 2025 based on current topics of concern and need at UAF.

  1. Collaborate with colleagues from across the university to explore a current topic in higher ed pedagogy
  2. Review current literature and best practices on the chosen topic, guided by experts in the field of teaching and learning
