Creating a course banner
A course banner offers the instructor the opportunity to provide a unique welcome, a personal touch, basic information, style and flair to an individual course or possibly a group of courses. Give your students the assurance, at a glance, that they are in the right place. Create a course banner with your course section, number, and title.
Need to add your own flair to the inside of your online course? Regardless of whether you use Blackboard Learn or another product–Canvas, WordPress–as your content management system, you could spruce up the space, or set the tone, with the use of a banner. Help your students focus on their education and your content. Doing so may reduce online distractions, or at least keep them at bay.

Tina works with Blackboard on a daily basis. She’s seen a variety of course layouts, with and without banners. Choosing to make your own adds your flair to the course. While Blackboard has many theme layout choices, using a banner of your own making allows you to personalize the space for you and your students.
Making your own banner is just one way to personalize your Blackboard shell. There are different course themes to choose from when the edit mode is on. You can also change the course structure and navigation to meet your needs. The first thing students see, however, is a banner if you use one.
Inside of your Blackboard course, go to the Control Panel, Customization, Teaching Style. Step five allows you to choose the element navigation, like what an assignment looks like, from icon, text, or icon and text. Step six allows you to replace an existing banner or add a new one.
